Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about permissions, privacy, licensing, and refunds. Not covered here? Email support@spacedock.pro.
Why does SpaceDock need the Accessibility permission?
macOS requires the Accessibility permission for any app that reads the list of open windows or moves windows on screen. SpaceDock uses it for exactly those two things: building the overview panel and placing windows when you apply a layout. It does not read the contents of your windows, log keystrokes, or capture your screen. You can revoke the permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility; SpaceDock will keep working, minus window layouts.
Why does SpaceDock need the Automation (Apple Events) permission?
Browsers don't expose their tab lists through the window system, so SpaceDock asks each browser directly via Apple Events — the same mechanism AppleScript uses. That's how it lists your tabs in Chrome, Safari, Arc, and other browsers, and your sessions in iTerm. macOS shows a separate consent prompt per app, so you decide exactly which apps SpaceDock may talk to. SpaceDock reads tab titles and URLs to display them; it does not read page content.
Where does my data live? Do you have my browsing history?
Everything SpaceDock stores — Spaces, pins, notes, settings — lives locally on your Mac. There is no account system and no SpaceDock server that receives your window titles, tab URLs, or anything else. The tab and window information you see in the panel is read live from your Mac and displayed; it is not uploaded anywhere.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free includes every feature — the overview panel, window layouts, pins, search, duplicate-tab cleanup — with up to 3 saved Spaces. Pro is a $15 USD one-time purchase that removes the Spaces limit. There are no other feature gates.
How many Macs can I use one Pro license on?
One Pro license can be activated on up to 2 Macs that you own and use. If you replace a Mac, contact support@spacedock.pro and we'll move the activation.
How do refunds work?
If Pro isn't for you, email support@spacedock.pro within 14 days of purchase and you'll get a full refund — no questionnaire. Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record, so the refund goes back through your original payment method. Details are in our Refund Policy.
Does SpaceDock run on Intel Macs?
No. SpaceDock is built for Apple Silicon (M1 and later) only, and there are no plans for an Intel build.
What's the update policy?
Free users always get updates. A Pro license includes updates as well — when you update the app, your license keeps working. Release notes for every version are published on the changelog.
Will SpaceDock launch apps or browsers behind my back?
No. SpaceDock only enumerates browsers that are already running — opening the panel never launches an app you didn't open yourself. If a browser is closed, its tabs simply don't appear.
Does SpaceDock phone home?
SpaceDock does not send your usage data to a telemetry server. The app talks to the network for things you can predict: checking for updates and fetching site favicons for the tabs it displays. Payment and licensing go through Paddle. That's the list.
